– by Mary May Larmoyeux – Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and were able to spend some time with your family. All of our grandkids were together this year at Christmastime!
And once again, our family made gingerbread houses. It was so much fun! As the grandkids decorated the roofs with marshmallows, gumdrops, and candy canes, I couldn’t help but think of how big they are getting.
Of course Christmas Day is now gone, and a new year is quickly approaching. That means it’s time for me to choose a Bible verse that I’ll focus on during 2018. You might want to choose some wise words to help you, too.
Bible verse for the year
It was only today that I chose my Bible verse for the year: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped (Psalm 28:7a).
Why did I choose this verse? Well, if 2018 is anything like 2017, it will be filled with many challenges. Sometimes I will not know what to do, nor will I understand events around the world.
When that happens, I hope I’ll remember the words of Psalm 28:7a … that I will lean on God’s strength and protection. That instead of worrying about things I cannot control, my heart will trust the One who is in control of all circumstances.
Invite others to join you
If you decide to select a particular Bible verse to focus on next year, you may want to invite your spouse, kids, grandkids, or a good friend to choose a verse for the year, too. Then during 2018, share with one another how God is using those verses in your lives.
And no matter what happens during 2018, be assured that it does not surprise God. He has offered to be our strength and shield. But the question is: Will we let Him?
Happy New Year!
