A few years ago my friend Suzanne told me about her family’s “love bear.” She and her husband take turns hiding it in dresser drawers, pockets, in the glove box of the car, etc. Whenever one of them finds the bear, they are reminded that they are loved. And whoever finds the little guy then hides it for someone else to discover one day.
I liked Suzanne’s idea so much that several years ago, Jim and I started doing this not only for ourselves, but also with our grandkids. Once, after a really hard day, I discovered our little bear tucked behind a pillow on the couch. I couldn’t help but smile.
Love Bear has been mailed across the country and back … it’s been hidden in suitcases … stuffed shoes and left in the driver’s seat of the car. And our original “love bear” was once hidden so well that we still haven’t found him. That’s why we are now on on Love Bear #2.
Valentine’s Day will soon be here and a few days ago I purchased some little red bears at the dollar store to mail to our grandkids (one bear per home). Hope that they will have fun hiding their own bears and that they will be reminders to the kids (and their parents) that true love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8)!
What is one of your favorite Valentine’s Day ideas for your family?
