It’s time for Independence Day parades and barbecues and family get-togethers. Yet, in the midst of the fun and activities, may we not forget what this day really commemorates —the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
And with that came the birth of our nation.
Here are a few thought-provoking reminders about what makes American great:
“America was founded by people who believed that God was their rock of safety. He is ours. I recognize we must be cautious in claiming that God is on our side, but I think it’s all right to keep asking if we’re on His side.” (President Ronald Reagan’s State of the Union address, January 25, 1984)
“America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” (French philosopher Alexis De Tocqueville)
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” (Psalm 33:12a).
