My husband and I live on top of an Arkansas “mountain,” and sometimes our house is covered with thick fog. On many days, when turning into our driveway, I can’t see our home because of the heavy white mist. But when that happens, I am not afraid.
Why? Because I know from experience that the crunching sound of gravel beneath the car’s tires means our house is nearby. It has not moved. I am not frightened to turn into the driveway because I have done that countless times before, when the visibility was clear. I can trust the past for what I know is still true today.
